Zizina labradus, the Common Grass Blue Butterfly is a small native butterfly found throughout most of Australia in grasslands and suburban gardens, feeding on the nectar of low growing flowers. They have a delicate fluttering flight and 2-3cm wings that are a beautiful lilac blue on the upper surface and a brownish grey underneath.
They lay pale bluish eggs on the leaves of legumes, clover and some native species. The well camouflaged caterpillars are primarily green with a yellow stripe on their sides and a darker green stripe on their backs. Seen as a symbol of calm, serenity, good fortune, growth, change, transformation and new beginnings.
